1) What is PinnaKal?
A) PinnaKal is an exciting ideas competition event which involves universities all over Pakistan.
2) What is the motive behind the whole concept?
A) To minimize the gap between the industry and students; make them able to think out of the box beside their daily academic activities to generate ingenious solutions/product ideas related to Information Technology.
3) What kind of ideas will be appreciated?
A) There is no particular theme for the event. We suggest you to identify your strengths & choose a vertical. It is an open ground for students to address any real life environmental problem, a generic software solution, an innovative website or a cellular navigation idea.
4) Give few examples of the ideas?
A) Some product examples are:
- Jammers based device as a solution to address Recent bomb blasts in the country (Environmental/Security)
- A distributed traffic management newsroom system solution proposed for news channels (Media)
- Live two-way Audio/Video streaming from a cell phone over a wireless data network which dynamically updates the current location of the mobile user (Cellular/Conferencing)
- An generic intelligent automation framework (Automation)
- Distance Learning Solution for universities incorporating live audio/video broadcasting over IP & record management (Education)
- An innovative powerful web portal solution using PHP based mashup technology driven by content management system like Joomla (Web)
5) Will the ideas be protected?
A) All ideas will be highly protected. Please read the Author Guidelines document for understanding.
6) Where will the event presentations take place?
A) Event presentations will be hosted by KalSoft regional offices (Karachi/Lahore/Islamabad). Any change in the venue will be formally notified to the participating students.
7) What are the assessment criteria?
A) All ideas will be assessed on the following factors:
- The scope & implementation feasibility of the idea
- The authenticity & originality of the idea
- Innovation that the product will bring in the environment
- The overall research & professional quality of the final document
- The real need of the product in the industry/environment
8) Who will assess the ideas?
A) KalSoft has formed an executive committee of top officials who will assess each idea in full detail.
9) What happens after the awards ceremony? Will the ideas be implemented in a proper product form?
A) KalSoft may provide resources to the top ideas to shape them into actual physical product. Students may be contacted to develop & implement whole lifecycle of the product.
10) Which industry we can target?
A) The idea can be proposed for any vertical. This can be a Daily Internet User/Consumer, Telecom, Forces, Government, Media, Banking, Education, Security, Software Houses, etc
11) How many ideas will be chosen for the final event presentations?
A) There is no limit decided for the final presentations. It totally depends on how many ideas are so ground-breaking that will penetrate through the target market and will bring an explosion to the conventional I.T
12) Will every group be called for the event presentations?
A) No. The groups that will qualify for the event presentations will be short listed after 30th April. Successful students will be formally notified and invited for the presentations. Groups that do not receive any kind of notifications mean unfortunately the idea has not been selected by the executive committee.
13) Where will the awards ceremony held?
A) The awards ceremony will be hosted in Karachi. The venue and date will be notified to the winners.
14) Who are the Event Sponsors? Their motives?
A) The event is co-sponsored by KalSoft, Ko-Ordination Group and Kalia Group. It’s a joint venture of the fastest growing business groups in Pakistan. Each of them are working genuinely to identify & appreciate the best talents in the country. We always bring up the top resources and place them in the paramount areas for their prospective career development. See Query 2 for more details.
15) Are there any technological limitations for the ideas?
A) No. We understand that different ideas will require different tools & technologies for their implementations. However, the influence should be more on the software side rather than the idea being a purely hardware based product with a minimal software driving at the front.
16) Can we submit our final year projects?
A) Yes, but if the idea is genuinely original and ground-breaking. Please consult your faculty for refinement.
17) Whom shall we consult regarding the help in ideas generation?
A) The final year projects coordinator/committee. You can also seek minor help from KalSoft and we can give you the feedback on your ideas before 17th April.
18) How can we get registered? Are registrations for free?
A) Students willing to participate in this event can simply enter their personal details in the Online Registrations provided on the PinnaKal website. As mentioned, this competition is totally free for students & universities. There is no registration or participation fee. Simply click on the Online Registrations button provided on the menu panel.
19) How many students can be the part of one group?
A) A group can have minimum 2 and a maximum of 4 students. However, there are no limitations of number of groups from each university but one student cannot be the part of more than one group.
