Mega Event ESWC 2007
Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) 2007, the
most fervent and happening e-gaming
event all around the world was organized
for the first time in Pakistan at a
national level. More than 300 teams
appeared in the regional rounds from
Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Hyderabad,
and Faisalabad which started from May
19, 2007. Around 40 thousand youngsters
from 300 different gaming centers
throughout the country played various
cyber games.
ESWC is one of the most innovative, the
most professional and the most
entertaining event for the youth around
the world which has initiated an
exciting and thrilling series of games.
It was held in Pakistan in association
with BRN and CyberCube. The event was
sponsored and co-sponsored by KalSoft
and Intel respectively while Geo Super
and Radio one FM 91 were the Media
Partners. The quarter finals, semi
finals and national final were held in
Karachi on June 3, 2007. “Havok” from
Lahore were the winners while
“Incredible” from Karachi were
runners-up in Counter-strike. The
grand final will be held in Paris,
France on July 5, 2007 between the
winning teams from all the participating
countries. Pakistan will be
participating for the first time in ESWC
2007 at an international level. ESWC
2007 has extended the image and
importance of e-Sports in the areas of
alliances, partnerships and media.
Further it will provide us with the
opportunity to appear on the
international e-sports arena for the
first time in the history.
Talking to the media, the event
organizer Mr. Abdual Razzak Chamdia,
from BRN said that cyber games were
becoming increasingly popular in
Pakistan and there is a need to
introduce international sports events in
Pakistan so that local players can
participate in these international
competitions. It is a notable fact that
every year more than 50 thousand players
from around the world take part in this
event which includes India, Bangladesh,
Iran and UAE from our region. The
winning team from Pakistan will be going
to Paris. Winners of international
tournament will be awarded with the
amount of $500,000.
Mr. Ameen Muhammad Lakhani of McDonalds,
strategic partner for the event,
expressed that electronic sports is an
encouraging step for our youth which
will place Pakistan on the map of
electronic sports. Speaking on this
occasion Mr. Ashar Zaidi from Intel Co.
said that technology and technological
enhancements are becoming an essential
part of not only routine life but sports
as well. They have not only led a new
trend to sports but also introduced
electronic sports, which is becoming
increasingly popular among young
generation. Mr. Yasar Noor from KalSoft
(Pvt) Ltd. expressed his delight on
arranging such an event and remarked it
as the future’s leading event. Mr. Saad
Nisar from Trakker Pvt Limited said that
such events encourage youngsters and
groom them to be international players.
The chief guests for the event, Mr.
Pierre Seillan, the Consul General of
France, stated that the event
organization was a positive step and
emphasized to make such events
successful. Youngsters from around the
world gather in this international event
which gives them a chance to come
together and understand each other’s
culture. Highlighting the details of the
tournament, Mr. Adnan Zoab from
cybercube said, “A squad of six members
from Pakistan will participate in
Counter Strike and War Craft games. The
regional rounds started from 19 May till
30 May in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore,
Hyderabad, and Faisalabad and we are
very much optimistic about the future of
Pakistan in the ESWC. The aim of ESWC
Pakistan is to increase the standard of
cyber games in Pakistan and to ensure
the participation of Pakistan in such
international competitions.”
