CPSP & KalSoft sign contract for MIS development & implementation

Secretary, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, Prof. Irshad Wahed and Chief Technology Officer Kalsoft (Pvt.) Ltd., Mr. Khurram Kalia signed contract for the development and implementation of MIS Software at CPSP Karachi on September 21, 2004.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan has achieved milestones towards accelerating learning technologies by incorporating state-of-the-art technology and providing I.T. services to all students of the College.
The Department of Information Technology, CPSP utilizing the state-of-the-art equipment such as Workstations, Servers, Digital PhotoCopiers, and Master Production Unit, have contributed to providing technological services to trainees, doctors, and the staff of CPSP. A high speed-network infrastructure has been established using a 1 GB Fiber Optic backbone. A Network Operations Center has also been established at CPSP and it is from here that all services such as Email, Internet, Intra Portal, File and Print Sharing, Security from outside intervention and viruses and a host of other things are provided. Internet Research Center is a recently introduced concept in CPSP for extending the computer based search and retrieval facility to the trainees. CPSP has established Internet Research Centers at the Head Office Karachi and Regional Centers of Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan. These research centers are established for the benefit of researchers and students in their research work. Internet Service is provided to all users of the Research Center free of cost and they can browse the Internet to search and download medical literature and other topics of interest. The CPSP website has become more dynamic and informative and if being regularly updated, thus, attracting a greater number of visitors from around the world.
The Establishment of the Networking Infrastructure laid the foundations for the development of an Integrated Management Information Systems Software. The MIS Software Development and Implementation project initiated on 29th March, 2004 by a Requirement Analysis Study and lasted for 3 months. It was completed by 1st July 2004. The analysts visited all departments of CPSP Karachi, conducted interviews and gathered all requirements, business flows and relevant data. The Analysis Reports were revised by departments several times. The final approved version were arranged in the form of a Functional Specification Document and submitted to CPSP on 1st July, 2004.
Based on this new set of CPSP Software Development requirements combined in the form of a Functional Specification Document, a Tender was prepared and through open Tender and competitive bidding process, pre-qualified companies were invited to participate and submit their proposal for an Integrated MIS solution for CPSP.
On September 21, 2004, the contract for the Development and Implementation of MIS Software was signed in the office of the Secretary, CPSP. The contract was signed between the College of Surgeons and Physicians and M/s KalSoft (Pvt.) Ltd. On behalf of CPSP, Prof. Irshad Waheed, Secretary, CPSP and on behalf of M/s KalSoft (Pvt.) Ltd., Mr. Khurram Kalia, CTO, KalSoft (Pvt.) Ltd. signed the contract. Amongst those that were present during this contract signing ceremony were Mr. Zafar A. Khan, Director I.T., Mr. Mahboob Jilani, Director Finance, Cdr. (R) M.Faheem Siddiqui, Comptroller Purchases, Mr. Imtiaz Ali, Senior Executive Officer (President Secretariat) and Mr. Syed Zeeshan Ali, Senior Executive Officer (I.T.) The MIS Software is to be fully operational and will be commissioned by 30th August, 2005.
The development MIS software will enhance the productivity of the College by reducing manual communication, manual efforts and redundancy. Shortly, all departments will be able to communicate with each other at a center point, duplicate and incorrect information will be minimized. Regional Centers can also share information in real time. The MIS Software will act as a central source of information to the management and to the students also. All information will be retrieved instantaneously and student information will need to be entered only once, thus eliminating any chances of error and duplication. The process of registration and examination will be streamlined as there will be a central database and central source of information storage and retrieval. All trainees will be allotted one number and this single number will be valid throughout CPSP for the duration of the candidates involvement will the College.
