Client Overview
The Pakistan army has been the key in holding the state together, promoting a feeling of nationhood among disparate peoples and providing a bastion of selfless service in the midst of a venal government system. All too frequently, the Pakistan Army has felt the need to take over the government, cleanse it of corruption and try to reform its bureaucracy before returning it to civilian control. Army control of the government has all too often led to a corrupt military regime that eventually collapsed. Currently, the army is once again in charge of the government of Pakistan.

Problems Faced
The Pakistan Army previously worked in a de-centralized environment that was very time consuming and required a lot of manual work to be done along with the use of numerous raw materials and recourses. There was no ease of communication present at hand and no integration of workers was possible to share and maintain data sources and information. A need was felt for the development of a search facility and a document management system that would help to manager the flow of data with protection and security.

Implemented Solution
E-Office works with the cutting edge Microsoft technologies that include the Office Application, Exchange Server, Share Point Portal Server and Web Browsers to help create, manage collaborate and share content. The solution is based entirely on Microsoft technologies. Microsoft Share-Point Portal Server 2003 and MS SQL Server 2000 lie at the heart of the solution. The resulting solution was a web based solution that enabled many types of users to interact with the system.

E-Office is thus a state-of-the-art information management system that attains an enhanced degree of productivity and effectiveness in its operations while ensuring substantial savings in time, workforce and materials. E-Office aims at providing a paper less office milieu and reducing the time span in dispensation of mail with optimal use of available resources. It is a flexible solution that manages users as groups, integrates search and document management with the most user friendly tools that are used everyday. E-Office also provides an e-mail and instant messaging facility for GHQ internet users. The solution allows the Pakistan Army to preserve reference data concerning its procedures, manpower and logistics. The project is intended to bring the Army to modern working environments and deliver tangible benefits in terms of cost savings and significantly improved efficiency without compromising on security of information.
